**Tehran:** Iran’s navy has claimed that it captured an advanced unmanned submarine belonging to the US military in the Strait of Hormuz, as the conflict between the two countries intensifies. Iranian authorities also claimed that an MQ-9 drone flying over the Strait of Hormuz was shot down. Iranian media reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps made the statement. Iran has also released a video that it said shows the captured unmanned submarine.

According to reports in Iranian media, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard said the MQ-9 drone was brought down while it was flying over the Strait of Hormuz. The claims come amid escalating military activity in the region.

The US military, however, provided a different account regarding the unmanned submarine. In a statement, the US military said that its submarine drone had malfunctioned while it was conducting a survey. It remains unclear whether the unmanned submarine claimed to have been captured by Iran is the same vessel referred to by the US military.

A Pentagon spokesperson said the malfunctioning drone was an older model and was not carrying strategic weapons. The statement did not confirm that Iran had captured the same unmanned submarine.Meanwhile, the US Central Command claimed that its forces had destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers following attacks by Iran against a US warship.

The developments come as military tensions continue to rise, with both sides making claims about attacks and military operations in the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding areas. Iran’s claim regarding the capture of the US unmanned submarine and the shooting down of the MQ-9 drone, as well as the US military’s statements about the malfunction and the destruction of Iranian crude oil tankers, represent the respective positions of the two sides.
